J & M are a delightful, relaxed quirky couple who met in Hong Kong. They have pretty swanky jobs; she is a children’s theatre producer and he designs for Lego! Obviously, as soon as I heard their story, I knew we were going to be a perfect match. I was so very excited that they wanted me to capture their special day.
Both of them love their bikes and really wanted pictures with them. I too cannot get enough of my bike so I was over the moon reading this rather unusual photo request. As an alternative wedding photographer, nothing makes me more happy than a very personalised wedding.
It was a very small affair with only their family but micro weddings are not any less of an emotional celebration.
The Dutch tradition wants the groom to bring the bridal bouquet to his beloved at her parents house where she is supposed to get ready. Given that they were both getting ready in their home they had to improvise their own version. Before heading to the ceremony, M ‘sneaked out’ of the house only to knock on their bright yellow door a few minutes later. J ran down the stairs, opened it with a convincing surprised look and received her homemade bouquet.
Once the traditional bit was over, they grabbed their bikes and we all walked to the gorgeous Hackney Town Hall. Another one of my favourite London town hall. Just like them, the ceremony was a laid back yet beautiful.
After a few group pictures we walked to the park nearby for our couple shoot with a twist. It is not everyday that you see a bride and groom riding their bikes. It did put a smile on passersby’s faces.
We ended the celebration back in their home in delicious cakes and tea.
Thank you J & M for letting me part of that special day.
