A Multicultural French Château Wedding at Château Gassies

Chloé and Matthieu’s wedding was a celebration of love, culture, and travel. Their story began in London, where they met while studying. She is a French bride with Cameroonian heritage, and he is Belgian, with a passion for exploring the world. They have lived in Dubai, New York, and London, and their friends come from every corner of the globe. So, it felt only fitting that their wedding reflected their rich multicultural backgrounds.

With over 150 guests flying in from around the world, their French château wedding at the breathtaking Château Gassies became not just a union of two people, but of cultures, traditions, and lifelong memories.

Chloé & Matthieu’s love story: From London to a French Château Wedding

The couple first crossed paths in London, where their shared studies turned into friendship and eventually love. They are both avid travelers, and their adventures have taken them across continents. But when it came time to choose a wedding venue, they wanted something that combined elegance, warmth, and family history. Château Gassies in Bordeaux was the perfect choice; a place that could host guests from around the globe while offering the romance of a French château wedding.

Day One: A Brunch to Welcome Guests from Around the World

The celebration began with a relaxed welcome brunch which is always a good idea. It allows everyone to catch up and familiarise with the surroundings. It also gave guests a chance to meet, reconnect, and soak in the anticipation of the days ahead.

Chloé and Matthieu wanted everyone to feel at ease, so the brunch was casual and full of laughter. Friends exchanged stories while family members bonded over sushi and drinks. This gentle start was the perfect way to set the tone for their multicultural wedding in France: warm, generous, and full of joy.

Day Two: The ceremony of a multicultural wedding in France

The second day was the centerpiece: a timeless French château wedding ceremony. Chloé prepared in the elegant bridal suite with her bridesmaids. Music played, champagne flowed, and the room was alive with laughter as the women danced, sang, and helped her get ready.

Meanwhile, after he finished getting dressed, Matthieu welcomed guests with his natural warmth.

The ceremony took place outdoors, framed by floral arrangements created by Marie-France Coussi of Artmania Fleur. Each detail was carefully thought out, including handmade fans crafted from wax fabric, a meaningful tribute to Chloé’s West African heritage. All the guests adored this thoughtful touch!

A close friend officiated the ceremony, adding heartfelt words and personal stories that brought tears to many eyes. Aside from the vows, one of the most moving moments was the Tasting of the Elements ritual. Chloé and Matthieu each tasted four symbolic flavors: lemon for life’s sour moments, vinegar for the challenges, pepper for the spice of passion, and honey for the sweetness of love. This ancient Yoruba tradition beautifully represented their willingness to embrace every facet of life together.

This was not just a French château wedding—it was also a fusion wedding, blending African heritage, Belgian hospitality, and French elegance into one unforgettable celebration.

Musical highlights: A piano surprise and African kora music

After the ceremony, the guests moved to the terrace for cocktails. As champagne glasses clinked and conversations buzzed, the atmosphere became even more special.

One of the highlights of the day was when Chloé revealed a secret she had been keeping from Matthieu: she had planned to play the piano to Matthieu and accompany it b some singing. With courage and love, she performed for him in front of all their guests for the very first time. The look on his face and the collective awe of the crowd was really beautiful. Again some tears were shed.

Chloé truely planned this day to perfection so at sunset, the heavenly sound of a kora, a traditional West African instrument, filled the air. The music echoed under the vast branches of a 250-year-old Lebanese cedar tree with the soft orange light. The blend of nature, culture, and emotion created an almost spiritual moment that perfectly reflected the beauty of the moment.

An evening party at Château Gassies: Music, laughter and joy

Later, the celebration moved into full swing. A saxophonist brought energy and soul to the dance floor, keeping everyone on their feet. The party lasted well into the night with the same energy if not more than during the day!

It was the kind of evening that guests will never forget: a seamless blend of elegance and fun that perfectly reflected who Chloé and Matthieu are as a couple. Their fusion wedding style carried into every moment, showing how love can unite traditions and create new ones along the way.

Day Three: A culinary journey to end their French Château wedding

On the third and final day, guests were treated to what the couple called “A Taste of Our Home.” For two avid travelers, food has always been a way of connecting with the places they’ve lived and loved. They wanted their friends and family to experience this too.

The château grounds transformed into a festival of flavors. Guests sipped English tea, enjoyed freshly baked French pastries, savored Belgian waffles from a food truck, and discovered the bold, rich flavors of West African cuisine.

Friends lounged by the pool and families gathered under the trees. It was relaxed, joyful, and delicious, a perfect farewell to a three-day celebration.

A black bride’s multicultural celebration of love and heritage

What made this wedding so remarkable wasn’t just the stunning setting of Château Gassies or the flawless details. It was the way Chloé and Matthieu wove their lives, cultures, and traditions together into one harmonious celebration for their loved ones.

From African fans at the ceremony to the music of the kora, from Belgian waffles to French elegance, every element represented a piece of their story. For a black bride like Chloé, it was also a celebration of heritage, identity, and love that crossed borders.

This was more than a wedding. It was a joyful reminder that love knows no boundaries and that when cultures meet, something truly magical happens.
