Lucy and James' CENTRAL LONDON INTIMATE WEDDING

Intimate London wedding | Olivia Rose The Label Dress

One of the best things that has emerged in the wedding industry is the rise in popularity of the micro wedding. Couples are more open to weddings taking place on their terms and put a lot of thought, time and effort into creating a day that they have both dreamt of.

In Lucy and James’ case this has meant planning their destination wedding along with having a celebration in London that would allow all their loved ones to be involved. Lucy’s beloved grandma is 92 and they wanted to make sure she was able to be a big part of their day. It was so important to them both that she could attend and the joy on her face was just amazing to see.

City centre micro wedding, London

This beautiful couple booked me for six hours, plenty of time to cover some pre-ceremony preparations right up to their arrival at Luca Restaurant where they would be holding their post wedding meal.

“Doing the legal bit” or holding a “legal celebration” has also become more popular over the last few years. More couples are choosing to get married abroad or wanting to have a Humanist wedding ceremony. Having a smaller church or registry office ceremony before or after their larger wedding celebration gives couples much more scope for a more personal wedding day at another time. It also, as in the case of Lucy and James, allows relatives who are unable to travel to play a part in the wedding.

Signing those papers and making things official was previously seen as something that should be rushed through. I’ve heard of couples nipping into a registry office during their lunch break! However, today couples are choosing to celebrate both wedding ceremonies. Giving themselves two chances to be with loved ones, to enjoy time for wedding portraits in different locations and to extend that wedding joy!

Elegant and romantic Olivia Rose The Label wedding dress

I joined Lucy just ahead of the ceremony. She was getting ready in Shoreditch, at Redchurch Townhouse, part of the Soho House group. It’s a super stylish boutique hotel with chic and contemporary interior design.

Lucy looked simply stunning in her Olivia Rose The Label wedding dress. The ivory colouring suited her perfect skin tones and I adored the boat neckline. As she and James were holding their ceremony in a Catholic Church she needed to wear a dress that wasn’t deemed “too revealing”. No bare shoulders, leg, cleavage etc. Her Olivia Rose The Label dress matched her brief perfectly, managing to combine both style and church etiquette.

I love that she had also included some very personal touches to her outfit, namely her Nana’s “I Love You” ring which Lucy wore on her finger next to her ring finger. It was a gift to her Nana from Lucy’s Grandad around 70 years ago and holds great sentimental value.

Lucy was in high spirits all morning, with no trace of nerves showing. In fact, she even had time to enjoy a glass of fizz in the amazing roll top bath. Which I, of course, had to photograph, the light was divine!

Intimate wedding in Covent Garden, London

Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Covent Garden is perhaps better known by its nickname, ‘the actor’s church’ as it provides a place of sanctuary for Catholic actors in the West End. The church doors are, of course, always open to any Catholics seeking peace, quiet and prayer amidst the hustle and bustle of Covent Garden.

Lucy and James’ intimate wedding ceremony was emotional and beautiful. They kept to the more traditional wedding vows and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house as they stood together at the altar and pledged their love to each other. Those joyful tears soon turned to cheers as Lucy and James emerged from the church into a cloud of white confetti thrown by their families.

Romantic wedding portraits in London city centre

Whilst their friends and family gathered together at a beautiful AirBnB near Luca Restaurant, I jumped into a white Hackney cab with Lucy and James. We were off to Bank. The area felt deserted on this autumnal Saturday morning and we captured some beautiful, relaxed wedding portraits. They are naturals in front of the camera and the light, well it was perfection. A photographer’s dream!

Wedding celebration at Luca Restaurant

Luca is a beautiful, Michelin Star Italian restaurant. The perfect place to celebrate their wedding with a nod to next year’s celebration in Puglia. The candlelit ambience was warm and welcoming with a lovely “outdoors in” vibe. I was immediately drawn to the red brick walls and stone tiled floor. It felt like a little slice of Southern Italy in the heart of the city.
